Season two moved Nevermore Academy from Romania to a Georgian gothic castle in the Irish midlands. Dozens of pages will tell you to go and see it. The castle's own website says public tours are suspended until further notice — and it says so on the homepage.
We checked each location a reader might actually try to visit. Some are open, one is a working film studio, and the main one is shut. That gap between what the travel roundups promise and what you can actually book is the entire reason for this page.
Nevermore is Charleville Castle, and you cannot tour it right now
The school moved to Charleville Castle in Tullamore, County Offaly — a Georgian gothic pile finished in the early 1800s, about an hour and a half from Dublin.
Then read the castle's own site before you plan anything. Charleville Castle states plainly:
"The castle will now be closed for public tours until further notice while a number of projects and essential works take place."
That is the operator speaking, not a review site. It is also the single most important sentence for anyone planning a trip around this show, and it is missing from essentially every "visit Nevermore" article we found.
Why this happens, and why it will keep happening. The same page explains the underlying situation: the castle is voluntarily run, and it notes that "sometimes we cannot offer regularly scheduled times." This is not a ticketed heritage attraction with a turnstile and a season. It is a building kept going by volunteers, which is a very different thing to plan a holiday around.
What that means for you:
- There is no ticket to buy and no booking page to check.
- The grounds and the approach road are public, so the exterior can be seen from outside.
- If you want inside access, the contact address on their site is the only route, and the answer may be no.
Do not turn up expecting a tour. A castle run by volunteers doing structural work does not owe visitors an open door, and arriving unannounced because a listicle said it was a Netflix attraction is the behaviour that gets sites like this closed permanently.
Powerscourt: open, ticketed, and we are not going to quote you a price
The other name that comes up repeatedly is Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, used for outdoor sequences. Unlike the castle, this genuinely is a full visitor attraction with gardens, a house and a waterfall.
Here is where we stop short. Powerscourt's own site blocks the automated check we use to verify prices, and the secondary sources we found disagree with each other — one lists garden admission for an adult in the region of nine or ten euro, another around fourteen. We are not going to average two numbers we cannot confirm and present the result as a fact.
So: check the estate's own ticket page before you go. That is the authoritative answer and it takes ten seconds. Any article confidently quoting you a Powerscourt entry price without saying when it was checked is doing something we would rather not do.
One thing worth knowing regardless of price: the estate is large, and the wooded sections used for filming are not a marked attraction. There is no sign saying a Netflix show shot here. You are buying entry to a garden estate that happens to contain the trees, not to a location tour.
The cemetery, and how to behave in it
Deansgrange Cemetery in south Dublin supplied graveyard scenes. It is a working municipal cemetery, open to the public, and free.
It is also a place where people are burying their families this week. Treat it as a cemetery you happen to recognise, not as a set. No photoshoots at headstones, no costumes. This should not need saying, and after every gothic production it turns out to need saying.
The studios, which are not visitable
Most of season two was shot on stages, not on location. The production used Ashford Studios in County Wicklow and Ardmore Studios in Bray.
Neither offers public tours. These are working facilities with productions inside them. Ireland has a studio tour you can book — the Game of Thrones one in Northern Ireland — and the existence of that one leads people to assume others exist. They do not.
This matters for expectation-setting. Nevermore's interiors, the corridors and the dorm rooms, are sets. There is no building anywhere containing them. The castle gives you the outside of the school and nothing else, even when it is open.
There is no official Wednesday trail, and we checked
Several travel pages describe an Ireland "Wednesday trail" as though it were a signposted route.
We looked at the source those pages would have to come from. Ireland's national tourism body publishes a guide to Irish film and television locations covering productions from The Banshees of Inisherin to Normal People, Vikings, Brooklyn and Star Wars, with visitor guidance for each.
Wednesday is not in it.
The tourism board has produced behind-the-scenes video from the Irish shoot — that is the film embedded at the top of this page — so this is clearly not indifference. It just means the marketing content exists and the visitor infrastructure does not, which is exactly the distinction a person booking flights needs.

What we would actually do with a weekend
Being useful means giving an answer rather than a list.
Base yourself in Wicklow, not Offaly. Powerscourt, Ardmore's surroundings, Lough Tay and the Sally Gap are all within a short drive of each other, and the county is genuinely one of the more beautiful parts of Ireland independent of anything that filmed there. That is a real trip.
Treat Charleville Castle as a day out only if the castle says yes. Write first. If the answer is no, the drive to Offaly for an exterior view is a long one, and the honest advice is to skip it this year.
Adjust what you are expecting. The thing people are chasing is Nevermore, and Nevermore is a set plus a facade plus colour grading. The castle in daylight, without the Burton treatment, is a beautiful and slightly shabby Georgian gothic house being held together by volunteers. That is a good thing to see. It is not the school.
Why the other pages get this wrong
Not malice — structure. A location roundup is written once, from other roundups, and never revisited. The castle's closure notice postdates most of them, and nobody goes back to a travel post to check whether the building is still open.
The result is a whole page of search results sending people to a closed castle. We checked it this week. If it reopens, this article is wrong and we will fix it — which is a promise the roundups do not make.
